How Sylfirm X micro-needles with almost no downtime

At Ageless Medical, we have a repertoire of Radio Frequency micro-needling devices that target different skin conditions. Our latest addition – Sylfirm X, is a US FDA approved device with the widest range of micro needles and dual wave radio frequency, for a customized treatment solution.

Different Radio frequency micro-needling  devices have different characteristics in terms of the needles, whether they are insulated or non-insulated, gold plated or not, the length of the needle, the types of radio frequency it produces, whether bipolar or monopolar and the pulse mode, whether it is pulse wave or continuous wave. These different characteristics will target and treat different skin conditions

To understand why Sylfirm X has no downtime, we should first understand the characteristics of the needles.

Insulated needles are designed to protect the epidermis (top layer) of the skin, emitting radio frequency energy only at the tip and causing low volume of heat. Multiple passes (penetrations) over the skin are required with insulated needles and the associated trauma results in bleeding and therefore more downtime.

Sylfirm X utilizes non-insulated needles where radio frequency is emitted along the entire length of the needle causing higher volume of heat. Less passes are needed with the non-insulated needles of Sylfirm X, therefore there is less trauma and less downtime.

Additionally, Sylfirm X needles are 24-K gold-plated allowing for smoother penetration through the skin, avoiding trauma to the skin and minimizing the risk of pigmentary changes.

The sensation of pain depends on individual’s threshold for pain and the skin problems we are targeting. There is minimal discomfort during the procedure as prior to treatment, numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area for 30 minutes.

As Sylfirm X has almost no downtime, skin looks tighter, brighter and pore-less the next day, the treatment can be done one to two days before the event.

The range of conditions Sylfirm X can treat

The depth of the micro needles and level of radio frequency for Sylfirm X can be adjusted to treat a wide range of skin conditions such as melasma, rosacea, acne, acne scars, wrinkles. The device can also be used on multiple body parts such as the neck, double chin, décolletage and the scalp for hair regrowth. Most importantly, Sylfirm X can not only be customized to treat different individuals but also individuals with a variety of skin conditions. As individuals can have melasma, acne scars wrinkles and saggy skin all at once and Sylfirm X can be used to treat them.

For example, at a depth of 0.3mm which is not found in other RF micro-needling systems, Sylfirm X targets the papillary dermis – an important layer (the upper dermal layer) below the basement membrane, where ageing fibroblasts and type 3 collagen are found. Type 3 collagen is important for improving skin elasticity and hydration. By targeting the papillary dermis, it can dramatically improve pigmentations for example, melasma caused by aging, strengthens skin barriers, and maximize effects of collagen production.

How Sylfirm X treat wrinkles

Sylfirm X can also help to reduce wrinkles. With the radio frequency continuous pulse mode, it can stimulate collagen production and skin tightening, which is proven in clinical studies.

The adjustable needle depth and RF energy level ensures that Sylfirm X is safe for delicate, sensitive skin and difficult to treat areas where skin is thinner. Sylfirm X can improve wrinkles around the eyes, mouth and forehead, skin on the neck, décolletage and under the chin.

How Sylfirm X tackles melasma

Melasma is not harmful per se but it is has a psychological impact on sufferers and is common among Asian women. Melasma is hard to treat and can relapse. It can be caused due to a variety of factors – excessive sun exposure, aging, genetics, hormonal changes, medications or pregnancy.

There are 4 causes of melasma:

1. Hyperactive Melanocytes

Due to exposure to Ultraviolet rays of the sun, there is an increase in pigmentation production known as hyperactive melanocytes.

2. Damaged Basement Membrane

A damaged basement membrane is found in melasma patients, the basement membrane is the skin structure found between the epidermis and dermis layer of the skin.

3. Increase in Abnormal Blood Vessels

These abnormal blood vessels produce VEGF which is called Vascular Endothelial Growth Factors which has been shown in clinical studies to cause more pigmentation.

4. Ageing Fibroblasts

Many ageing fibroblasts are found in melasma patients.

Sylfirm X is a great device to control melasma. With the pulsed wave RF mode, Sylfirm X treats melasma through targeting the root causes by:
– Regulating hyperactive melanocytes
– Strengthening damaged basement membrane
– Removing increased abnormal blood vessels in the skin
– Increasing collagen production

How Sylfirm X rejuvenates skin

 To reduce the appearance of visible pores, RF is delivered at 55-60°C into the dermal layer, stimulating and remodeling collagen production that leads to skin tightening.

The number of sessions needed for Sylfirm X

Depending on the skin problems we are treating, four treatments or more at monthly intervals are generally recommended. A four-week interval allows the skin to heal in between treatments.

For example, if you have moderate acne scars, you’ll need about three or four treatments. Deeper scars might need more treatment sessions. It takes time for the formation of new collagen, so you will see results after three to four weeks.

For skin brightening and rejuvenation, patients will see results after one single session of Sylfirm X with glowing, radiant and pore-less skin the next day!
