Stretch Marks
Also known as striae, stretchmark is a type of scar formed when our skin stretches, tears or shrinks quickly. The rapid stretching due to pregnancy, weight gain, extreme weight loss, adolescent growth spurts and even body building weakens the underlying elastic tissue and disrupts the normal growthof, causing skin to “crack” and underlying blood vessel to show through.
This leaves the telltale red or purplish markswhich may fade to become white lines over time. The marks can be as short as a few centimetres to several inches.
Stretch marks are commonly found over the tummy area, but they can also appear almost anywhere else on the body including over the thighs, hips, breasts, arms, buttock area, calves, knees, and over the lower back.
If you are distressed by your stretch mark problem, maybe it's time to take an effective approach to treat it!
Our clinic offers different methods of treatment alone or in combination depending on the age of the stretch marks and their severity. In general, the sooner the stretch marks are treated after they occur the better the final results.
What Are Methods For Stretch Mark Removal?
Dual Yellow Laser is commonly used for skin resurfacing of the face but it shows visible improvements in reducing stretch marks. The yellow laser kickstarts the production of collagen to repair the texture irregularities and pigmentation. As the skin regenerates, stretch marks will re-pigment and their appearance will be reduced.
High Intensive Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is another effective stretch mark treatment methods. The treatment delivers ultrasound energy into the deep structural tissues and muscles toinduce a natural, regenerative response, stimulating the growth of new collagen for tissue repair; it also helps to lift and tighten the skin over time. Because ultrasound technology actually works non-invasively from the inside-out, the diminishing of stretch mark lightening will be gradual over 2-3 months, and can continue to improve up to six months after the procedure.
How Many Sessions Do I Need?
Treating stretch marks cannot be done in just one session for the above treatments. Depending on the type of treatments and the conditions of the stretch marks, a few sessions of treatments may be needed to see some results.
Make an appointment to consult our doctor to determine the type of treatments and the number of sessions you require.
